Oran Greier has always found herself fascinated with the finest details.
“All complexities are available already in them. Lines and curves, movement, dynamics, directions. Relations, in between. Concealment, disclosure, and continuous unfolding
.”

Born in 1979 in New York, she discovered artistic analog photography already in her early teens and has been practising it ever since. She studied art & photography for a Bachelor’s degree in Austria (University of Arts Linz) and for a Master’s degree in northern Finland (University of Lapland). Parallel to her studies, Oran photographed in classical music projects for many years, seeking to bring out the more individual and intimate sides of collective music-making.

Already then she began to engage in abstract visual art in connection with music and nature. Photography, various printing techniques, drawing and philosophy were and still are the spaces of her explorations. The mysteries and metaphors of abstraction, nature and music capture her, and so she captures them.

Alongside her ongoing artistic activity, she began working towards a doctorate in philosophy & art, focusing on phenomenology (particularly Maurice Merleau Ponty). Later she completed a Master’s degree in art therapy (Weißensee Academy of Art) in Berlin and she currently works part-time in private practice as Art & Photo Therapist.

Here in Berlin, she established ATELIER ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY, where she offers various photography courses and workshops. This is a place where participants can deepen their photographic abilities or enjoy learning something new, with a choice of exciting and enriching practice-focused activities inside and outside the darkroom

Oran Greier has been part of Rooms of Kairos since 2024.
Already before that, she participated in a collective exhibition at Muschkebart / Gaswerksiedlung Berlin. Some of her photographs are exhibited in Rooms of Kairos’ Sonic Studio and watch over the work of many musicians, producers, and engineers. Her artwork is available for exhibition and purchase.

LYRICS  /  silver gelatin prints, 2021-ongoing

The poetics of nature & light.

FROM THE SERIES “FOR THE TIME BEING” /  silver gelatin prints, 2022

The gesture of stillness: Time carries everything that stops and holds it for us. We see, we love, we create; for the time, Being.

The images in this series are composed of dried leaves that were found on the ground. The elements of nature that were once emblems of growth and life are now fallen and barely noticed as parts of life. Photographed with macro lenses and shown in their beauty, their whole history of Being is brought back and made visible.

from the series “SHADOW”  /  silver gelatin prints, 2008-2009

The ultimate platform for driving our lust for illusions into its full manifestation: a surface filled with shadows is a place where a truth becomes entirely futile, as the image begs of us to play with its possibilities.
Confined by photography and depicted on the purity of the white wall, alone and without object, this surface is transformed into a new world of essence, in which the shadow’s lack of being – becomes a being.

FROM THE SERIES “WAYS” silver gelatin prints, 2008

FRom the series “WINDS”  /  silver gelatin prints, 2022

When the fruits of the trees shed, their skins fall to the ground. They tear, they split, they dry. They lay there, time-ridden. Or they come to life when they meet the sun, communicate with their shadows, with their own vitalities. As the wind blows by.

FROM THE SERIES “THORNS”  /  silver gelatin prints, 2021

One seeks the Other, seeks touch; the Other is curious. But it looks away and stays still. One wraps itself around oneself – what else is there left to do? And becomes visible to itself. And what about the Other?

The series Thorns is a symbolic story of a relationship. Two beings are involved, are evolving, each in their own way. Where do they meet? Have they ever met? The dark background of the images and the play of sharpness prompt these questions and leave them open.
