Nick works across electronic and acoustic music in live, studio and installation contexts. His pieces have been performed by leading musicians in concert halls worldwide, diffused over spatial sound systems, installed in galleries and museums and heard in scene and on screen. His primary instrument is a modular synthesizer system which he also plays live. Central to his work is an exploration of the raw and non-linear sounds of feedback and distortion, the carving out of finely textured sonic detail from found sound and noise, and a speculative exploration of synthetic sounds that border on the real.

Nick has held the Mendelssohn Scholarship (18-20’), was a Gaudeamus Award nominee (18-19’), and a Styria-Artist-in-Residence Scholarship (19’). He has also been awarded prizes and residencies by the London Symphony Orchestra, The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize, Sound and Music's New Voices, New Dots and Inspired by Digital.

Pieces have been presented by the London Symphony Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, United Instruments of Lucilin, Schallfeld, Nikel, Insomnio, Ensemble Offspring, Catchpenny, Divertimento, The Philharmonia, Workers Union, Kokoro, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the London Chamber Orchestra amongst many others, with sounds heard at Walt Disney Concert Hall (L.A, USA), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (NDL), Manifeste (FRA), Rainy Days Festival (LUX), Rondo (ITA.), Impuls (AUT) Huddersfield Festival, Cheltenham Festival, London Ear Festival, LSO St. Luke's, The Barbican, The RSNO Centre, NonClassical, Henry Wood Hall (U.K.), Monom, the Semper Oper and the Konzerthaus, Berlin (GER).

Nick spent 2018-19 as a fellow at Harvard University Music Department (with Chaya Czernowin), holds a doctorate from the Royal College of Music (supervised by Jonathan Cole, 2020) and previously studied at Oxford University and Trinity Laban. He was a member of the Professorial Staff at Trinity Laban in 2017-18 and was a graduate teaching assistant at the RCM from 2016-18. In 2022-23, Nick worked with sound art collective Kling Klang Klong on new media, concert and installation pieces. He now works on live, recorded and installative projects both independently and with collaborative partners. He is a resident of Rooms of Kairos in Berlin.

Nick has lectured at Trinity Laban and the Royal College of Music and has given guest lectures and seminars throughout Europe and the US. He is always keen to engage with curious musicians who are looking to discover new sounds and working methods. He is happy to tailor an approach according to each individual’s musical needs- whether it be in developing specific production and composition skills or more critical composition supervision and tuition.
